Q: What is the difference between Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound?
A: Milford Sound is located at the northern end of the national park. It is a typical fjord, a deep-water fjord between steep cliffs on both sides. It is about 13 kilometers long and is famous for its eye-catching scenery, especially Mitre Peak. Milford Sound is the easiest to reach of the 14 fjords in the national park. It can be reached by car or plane. Doubtful Sound is in the middle of the national park. The peaks there are not as high as those on both sides of Milford Sound, but they are equally stunning. Doubtful Sound is about 3 times longer than Milford Sound, and its widest point is about 10 times larger than Milford Sound. Doubtful Sound is famous for its wild natural landscape and the rich wild species that can be found everywhere.

Q: How long does it take to get to Doubtful Sound?
A: Doubtful Sound is about 2.5-3 hours drive from Queenstown and about 30 minutes drive from Te Anau.

Q: Where do I park after arriving at Doubtful Sound?
A: The overnight parking lot is 950 meters from the visitor center, and the non-overnight parking lot is next to the visitor center.

Q: Can you pick me up from my hotel in Queenstown or Te Anau?
A: If you book our bus to Doubtful Sound, we will pick you up from most hotels in Queenstown or Te Anau. When you book, please let us know the address of the hotel where you want us to pick you up, or meet up at our local visitor center.
Q: What if we cannot take a flight from Doubtful Sound due to weather reasons?
A: You can apply for a refund of the difference in the flight price from the agent where you purchased the ticket, and you can take the bus back to Queenstown.
Q: When do I need to arrive at the meeting point?
A: Please arrive at the meeting point at least 20 minutes in advance of the scheduled time, and check in and board the boat at least 20 minutes before the departure time. January to April is the busy season, so it is best to allow 45 minutes to park and go to the visitor center to exchange tickets and board the boat.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Items you need to bring: non-slip shoes/boots, waterproof jacket, warm sweater/blanket/coat, sunscreen/sunglasses, insect repellent and camera.
