Itinerary overview
After gathering and setting off, the tour guide will first lead you on a hike in the primeval jungle to the cave. At the entrance of the cave, you can see the large insect unique to New Zealand - the cave locust caveweta. Follow the tour guide and enter the Waitomo area, where the limestone structure is dense and rich. The ancient cave structure, the spacious and tall cave hall, the huge stalactites, stalagmites and stone waterfalls all present a magnificent landscape.

Are there glowworms on this tour?
No, Aranui Cave has no river running through it, meaning it houses little life past its entrance. However, just inside the entrance is a colony of native New Zealand cave weta!

3-year-olds and under go free, but they must be booked to secure a place on tour.
Can I include a child aged over 14 as a child in a family pass?
No children over 14 years of age will need to be booked as an adult. Proof of age may be required.
What is the check-in time and location?
Aranui Cave tours check-in at the main glow worm caves at 39 Waitomo Village Rd, Waitomo. Then, then self-drive to Ruakuri Bush Walk for your tour; follow the signs located at the corner of Ruakuri Road and Tumutumu Road down to the lower carpark, where you will wait for your guide.
