FAQ about the project

Q: What if we can't take off due to bad weather?
A: If the flight is postponed or cancelled due to weather conditions, you don't have to pay a cancellation fee. You don't have to worry about refunds because we don't collect payment until the departure is confirmed. We will do our best to reschedule your flight to a time that suits your travel plans.
Q: How early do I need to check in?
A: Please check in at our Tekapo Airport or Franz Josef Airport at least 15 minutes before the flight departure time.
Q: What should I bring on board?
A: It is recommended to bring a sweater or jacket, sunglasses and a camera. Large bags can be left with our ground staff for safekeeping. If you take a helicopter to land in the mountains, guests are required to wear warm shoes that cover their feet and appropriate warm clothing such as gloves and hats in winter.
Q: Is it cold in the plane?
A: All aircraft are equipped with heaters, and the pilot will turn on the heater if the weather is cold. There are vents above all seats, which you can use when needed.
Q: What is the best time to fly?
A: Due to the unpredictable weather, we recommend booking the earliest available flight to avoid missing out on your flight due to weather changes. The light at different times of day will change the view outside the window and provide a variety of photo opportunities. Since we fly over a large area and make many gentle turns, you will get excellent photo opportunities no matter which time you choose to fly.
Q: Can guests with limited mobility participate?
A: Absolutely! Our different aircraft types are designed to meet the needs of all guests. We provide large mobile boarding stairs with low steps and sturdy handrails for all larger aircraft. Boarding stairs can also be provided for smaller aircraft if required.
Q: Do flight tours operate all year round?
A: We operate 364 days a year, depending on weather conditions. We only close on December 25th, Christmas Day.
Q: Can you see snow all year round?
A: Yes! The higher mountains near the Southern Alps have permanent snow cover, including Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, and all the higher mountains in the region above 9,000 feet (2,743 meters). In the colder seasons and during winter, the snow continues to the Mackenzie Basin near Lake Tekapo and near the foothills of the West Coast.
Q: How many seats are there on the aircraft?
A: Our modern fleet consists of aircraft of various sizes, accommodating 7 to 15 passengers. We will select the aircraft based on the number of passengers and flight requirements. Our Gippsland Airvans can accommodate up to 7 passengers, Cessna Grand Caravans can accommodate up to 13 passengers, and GAF Nomads can accommodate up to 15 passengers. All seats on the aircraft are individual window seats, ensuring maximum comfort and the best views. More information about the fleet can be found here.
Q: Can I choose my own seat?
A: The pilot will arrange the most suitable seat for each passenger according to the passenger requirements of each aircraft. Please rest assured that all seats are window seats, so you can enjoy the excellent view no matter where you sit.
Q: Is the flight sightseeing activity suitable for pregnant women?
A: We recommend that you follow the doctor's advice. However, we have had pregnant women participate in flight sightseeing activities in the past.
