Itinerary overview
After taking a breathtaking sightseeing bus through the Akaroa volcano site and taking photos, you will find the quiet Bohatu Bay. There, you will set off for the colony to monitor the nesting site and make sure that our little penguins are safe. Then, you will have the opportunity to quietly observe them playing in the water from our hidden place, equipped with binoculars and astronomical telescopes. At nightfall, it is very likely that we will see some penguins return to the shore and relax on the rocks before heading to the nest. Since they need to go far to feed the chicks, we will leave before dark to keep them calm. In addition, trips booked from late November to February may have the opportunity to closely observe rehabilitation work, such as feeding and swimming treatment. ( Please call in advance to confirm whether we have penguins who are recovering.)

FAQ about the project
Please wear high-quality walking shoes or boots with good grip to cope with some mud in wet conditions.
This road may be a little difficult for some people, and it may be slippery in humid conditions. We will try our best to maintain good road conditions so that most people can reach birdwatching shelters.
Please wear warm clothes (the attractions will provide some extra camouflage clothes).
Please bring binoculars. Although some attractions will be available, you may want to bring your own telescope, because the attractions may not guarantee one per person.
Please note:
Penguin observation only relies on natural light. The activity usually starts 2.5 hours before sunset. Depending on the different times of the year, the departure time is also different, and the observed penguin activity and probability also vary according to the season. For details, please check the official website.
